Job Description
Overview: Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, payroll system, and other key financial records. The role requires hands-on accounting experience and the ability to carry out a variety of tasks independently. This position also ensures accounts payable processes are handled in accordance with internal guidelines and works closely with other departments to ensure compliance with external funding and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
# Review and verify all timesheets for accuracy and completeness.
# Prepare timesheets for certification and processing of payroll.
# Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation, including benefits and tax deductions.
# Interpret internal policies and relevant laws to manage payroll activities and reporting.
# Track employee leave balances including vacation, sick time, and comp time.
# Reconcile bank statements and account balances regularly.
# Assist with preparation of regulatory and program-specific financial reports.
# Prepare and record journal entries and document financial transactions.
# Allocate financial data such as expenses, revenues, and receivables based on standard schedules.
# Conduct financial analysis and report on trends, forecasts, and discrepancies.
# Support month-end and year-end close and audit processes.
# Monitor compliance with GAAP and organizational accounting procedures.
# Identify and resolve errors in financial documents and records.
# Recommend improvements to accounting procedures and controls.
# Collaborate with other departments while maintaining strict confidentiality.
# Represent the organization in a professional manner and contribute to a high standard of internal service.
# Maintain courteous and professional behavior in all internal and external interactions.
# Uphold privacy and confidentiality standards in all communications and activities.
# Demonstrate commitment to service, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
# Follow all safety, regulatory, and organizational guidelines and policies.
# Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
~ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
~2–4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
~ Solid understanding of accounting principles
~ Healthcare industry experience is preferred
~ Proficient with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
~ Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and investigative skills
~ Strong organizational and time management skills
~ Ability to exercise discretion and make sound decisions
~ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
~ Flexible to work at multiple locations and variable schedules as needed
~ Must have a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and active auto insurance
~ Experience with MAS 100 is a plus
~ Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service and professional conduct
